AutoSurfs gained a bad name in the past due to prevalence of multi-level schemes practised by the exchanges. Some closed down while others cleaned up their act and continued in different forms. Some changed over to manualsurfs to avoid the bad reputation. However, autosurfs do serve its purpose, if utilised properly and ethically.

For one, it is convenient to let the program run on its own, generating hits to webpages automatically. It is a lazy way to achieve a boost to a website's traffic ranking. More creative autosurfs incorporate random bonus credits that can be claimed by surfers who took the trouble to at least view the progress of the surfing, rather than simply let it run in the background unattended. Surfers who are looking out for interesting offers from websites can relax while looking at an autosurf window running, ready to interrupt it for a closer look when necessary.

The autosurfs in my Next Ten list are either too plain, or lack the extra features to make them worth my time to use every day. But they do serve their purpose for an occasional surfing. I cannot rely on just ten or fewer autosurfs since I have more than three websites to maintain, to keep up their Alexa traffic rankings. A new site without any traffic ranking can gain its ranking after autosurfing for a few months, provided the necessary Alexa widget is installed in the webpages.

Some autosurfs look impressive in their features but lack stability in autosurfing. Stability is most important as good autosurfing requires that there be no interruptions at all. Certain sites cause irritating interruptions, especially the casino or gambling websites. The admins have to be active and responsive. Next, there should be some variety to make autosurfing more fun and worthwhile, such as random bonus credits either during login, or during surfing, or both. Good features like additional banner and text ad links are very useful too. Otherwise the autosurf becomes plain and boring.
